With building works complete, the Council’s largest ever capital works project ever was pronounced open in a virtual ceremony today (Friday 1st October) in a virtual ceremony undertaken by Moonee Valley Mayor Cam Nation.
The new aquatic and fitness centre, built with support from the Victorian Government, includes a 50-metre heated outdoor pool, 25-metre indoor lap pool, learn to swim pool, dedicated warm water program pool, spa, steam room and sauna, indoor water playground, café and seating area, gym, group fitness and spin studios, childcare and accessible family change rooms.
Advising that he is looking forward to members taking advantage of the facilities when restrictions ease, Mayor Nation advised “we are incredibly excited to present this state-of-the-art facility to our community.
“This is Council’s largest ever capital works project and we’re thrilled to see this impressive leisure centre come to life and provide something for the community to enjoy out of lockdown.
“Council is looking forward to welcoming the community to our new centre in line with the national roadmap and a community celebration will be planned when it is safe to do so.”
Designed by architects Peddle Thorp, the facility operates under the Council’s MOVE MV (Moonee Valley) brand along with the Ascot Vale Leisure Centre and Queens Park Swimming Pool to meet the community’s exercise, fitness and wellness needs.
Mayor Nation says that a facility like Keilor East Leisure Centre will be of significant importance for the community as COVID-19 restrictions ease, adding “health, fitness and wellbeing play a huge role in many of our community members daily lives and something that has been missed during lockdown.
“I know the community is just as excited as we are to start using this incredible new facility. The launch of our MOVE membership earlier this year means even more of our residents will have unlimited access to all Moonee Valley facilities, which is an important part of our commitment to supporting our community to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing.”
The facility’s outdoor pool is due to open in line with phase B of the National Plan, anticipated for late October.
