read moreSportWest’s newly released the 2022 WA Sport Industry Remuneration and Benefits Report has shown that the Western Australian sport industry now employs more women (53.71%) than men (46.21%) and 49% of state sporting association board positions are held by women.
In comparison, in March 2021 the Australian Institute of Company Directors reported women held 30.8% of ASX 300 board positions.
Released last night at the SportWest AGM, the latest edition provides insights into the changes that have occurred within the state’s sport industry over the past eight years - the last report having been produced in 2014.
Among a range of insights, the Report revealed a 5.46% pay gap between what men and women are paid and that women in senior management positions are paid 11.7% less than their male counterparts.
Remuneration information showed that at senior leadership level, the median salary is $121,098, at operational management level, the median salary is $ 82,526 and at coordination/support level, the median salary is $ 60,371 - with salaries having increased by 10% since the last survey in 2014.
The Report also revealed that the number of women in senior management roles increased by 9% and women in operational management roles increased by 28%, while the number of full-time roles has decreased by 20%.
It also advised that average tenure has decreased, with less than 10% having over 10 years tenure, while the number of employees with less than two years tenure has increased by 7%.
Last night's launch of the Report at the SportWest AGM was supported by a panel session involving HR consultant Nicole Horrocks, Paul Moss from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA and Annie Simpson the co-founder and Chief Consulting Officer at Modern People.
The panel discussed the findings of the Report and provided advice on how sports should address the recommendations.
SportWest is now waiting to see how the industry responds to the Report while ensuring the Western Australian sport industry positions itself as an industry of choice for employees.
Chief executives and equivalents from SportWest Member Organisations who were not at the meeting last night and would like a copy of the full report, including role benchmarking please contact SportWest via info@sportwest.com.au
