Work commences on redevelopment of Roma’s Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre

Work commences on redevelopment of Roma’s Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre
April 25, 2025

Redevelopment of the Maranoa region’s new multi-million dollar Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre Project is now underway.

With an investment of $5 million from the Queensland Government, when complete the redeveloped Centre will feature a 50-metre outdoor heated pool, a 25-metre indoor program pool for lessons and therapy, a water play area for young families; swim club facilities and fully accessible amenities to promote inclusivity for all.

This development is a long-term investment in Roma’s liveability and a legacy that aligns with Queensland’s delivery of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In a statement, Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie advised “the Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre is set to become the heart of Roma’s community life, fostering health, connection and opportunity.

“This is more than just an aquatic centre - it’s a symbol of our commitment to improving regional liveability and creating a legacy for future generations as we look towards the 2032 Games.

“Partnering with the Maranoa Regional Council, we are delivering infrastructure that supports economic growth and strengthens communities.”

Maranoa Regional Council Mayor, Wendy Taylor, expressed her enthusiasm for the project’s potential to transform the community, adding “this Centre will provide a state-of-the-art facility that our residents can be proud of.

“It’s a testament to what can be achieved when governments and industry collaborate, and it will leave an enduring legacy for our region.”

Set to be operational by the middle of 2026, the upgraded Centre will provide opportunities for regional competitions and aquatic events.
