Two inspiring young YMCA (the Y) fitness instructors in the farming community of Warwick in south west Queensland have been recognised as ‘national heroes’ for their 'exercise doesn’t have to be serious' fitness workout videos.

Brooke Price, aged 25, and single mother Sam Scotney, aged 28, have developed a large social following throughout the Coronavirus lock down. Both instructors were stood down from their local centre -  the Warwick Indoor Recreation and Aquatic Centre (WIRAC) following the centre’s closing due to Coronaviris restrictions.

Price notes “we were bored at home, and so many patrons and members were saying they were lonely, bored, wanted to get fit and do something, so we just thought: “stuff it, let’s just do it!,

As a result, the instructors teamed up to produce a humurous video series which has included ‘chicken row and presses’, ‘tractor lunges’, “glow in the dark’ and 80s workouts.

Price and Scotney are just two of the thousands of inspiring young Y people across Australia working hard to keep their local communities connected, active and entertained while so much of the nation is still closed. 

They were surprised live on this morning’s Channel Today Show (22nd May 2020) to learn they had been nominated as 'Have a Go' heroes, winning $5000 each for their contributions to their local community in this challenging time.
