Yuin Theatre at Eurobodalla Shire’s Bay Pavilions presents inaugural theatrical season
April 21, 2023

The Yuin Theatre at the Bay Pavilions in the NSW town of Batemans Bay has announced its inaugural theatre season, looking forward to treating audiences to a diverse range of the best Australian and international performances, including family shows, musicals, heart-warming stories, theatrical plays which will make you think, world-class musicians and cabaret.

The 2023 Yuin Theatre Season features 16 national and international productions that tell the story of Australia’s past and present, inviting the patrons to connect with the nation’s history and future. The 2023 season also contains high quality music performances from Australian artists, who have also had international success.

Looking forward to the season, Eurobodalla Shire Mayor, Matthew Hatcher advised “Batemans Bay enjoys a proud history of community theatre, and Bay Pavilions is taking this thespian tradition to a new level.

“I’m looking forward to magical nights, strolling from town after drinks and dinner to see a fabulous show. See you there.”

Explaining that all involved with the facility are proud to be able to launch a fascinating program of performances in the Yuin Theatre in its inaugural year, Bay Pavilions Arts and Leisure Manager Chris Tague added “the program has been curated to inspire, stimulate and reinvigorate the culture and community connectivity.”

Highlights of the upcoming season
For Families there is the production of Are We There Yet. This CDP production brings the joy and wonder of Alison Lester’s classic book to life.

The Multi- awarding winning cabaret performer Catherin Alcorn brings her role as The Divine Miss Bette to the Yuin Theatre’s stage. After sell out seasons at the Sydney Opera House and on Broadway, this outrageous performance backed by an all-star 7 piece band and dancers will have you dancing and singing throughout this thrilling concert experience.

Wallflowering, by award winning Australian Playwright, is a delightfully amusing and poignant play about the nature of marriage, the pursuit of happiness and the perfect foxtrot!

Lior and Domini bring their intimate and harmonised storytelling, which is underpinned by intricate guitar.

The Grigoryan Brothers. Acclaimed guitarists Slava and Leonard Grigoryan have created a suite of music inspired by objects personally selected from the National Museum of Australia’s vast collection tracing Australia’s diverse and complex history.

A highlight of the season is The Sunshine Club. This first nations musical Set in 1946, tells the story of Aboriginal soldier Frank Doyle, who is just returning home to Brisbane after serving in the Second World War, to find that, while the world may have changed, the same attitudes and prejudices still exist at home. But this only fills Frank with a strong desire to change things for the better by setting up The Sunshine Club. A place where all people are welcome to come together, laugh, romance and dance the night away as Frank sets out to win the heart of Rose, the girl from next door. The Sunshine Club is a gloriously energetic, thought provoking and above all entertaining night of theatre.

The 2023 Sydney Theatre awarding wWining The End of Winter focuses on our world. Will climate change erase winter leaving it to exist only in fairy tales, paintings, and historical accounts? In hot, bushfire-prone Australia our winters are becoming warmer and shorter. The End of Winter is about loss and resilience. It’s about the places one can search for cold weather -places that can be reached via public transport and the imagination.

Bite Club features Brisbane’s award-winning cult-cabaret mischief-makers, circus stars, and heart-stopping hooligans Briefs Factory, as they join forces with much celebrated and sainted songbird Sahara Beck.

Guests will be treated to a shotgun wedding and table settings of music, circus, drag, burlesque, theatre, and comedy.

Described as one of Australia’s most arresting performers, Sahara Beck’s soaring vocals will blast female pride power into the ferociously fierce displays of talent from the BRIEFS boys you know and love. Their slick tomfoolery and heart-stopping hooliganism will be bathed in suave synth, heady hooks, and swelling strings, all set to a glorious pop pulse.

The Yuin Theatre will also offer four performances within our highly popular Morning Melody Program.

The Aligned Leisure team, along with Eurobodalla Shire Council, are proud to cultivate arts and culture in the Eurobodalla region with a diverse and compelling performance program for our community this coming year.
