With Pilates having become one of the fastest growing core-fitness trends due to its versatility, AUSactive has launched its inaugural guide for Pilates professionals and business operators to support the continued safe growth of the Pilates industry.

The Best Practice Pilates Guideline has been developed in collaboration with AUSactive’s Pilates Stakeholder Reference Group which includes various Pilates education providers, business operators and experienced professionals.

This evolvement of the guideline entailed significant industry consultation with over a hundred Pilates operators and professionals providing intel for best practices in the industry.

The Best Practice Pilates Guideline provide:

  • Scope of Practice for Registered Pilates Professionals across the various roles
  • Professional pathways, qualifications and courses information
  • Risk management
  • Pilates equipment use
  • Working with children and client considerations.

AUSactive General Manager, Standards and Development, Chris Alexander said the new Best Practice Pilates Guideline are for Pilates businesses and their employers to ensure they follow best practice standards.

Alexander noted “Pilates Professionals play an integral role in preventative health and fitness, supporting many Australians to keep active.

“The new industry guideline, a first for AUSactive, is designed to support Pilates businesses with best practice standards and implement risk management strategies for the safe and effective delivery of the various Pilates methods on offer.”

KX Pilates Chief Executive, Selina Bridge, said the guidelines will help to unite the Pilates industry and ensure a high level of standard quality and professionalism.

Bridge shared “we commend AUSactive for their exceptional work in establishing industry standards and guidelines that unite Australia’s diverse Pilates landscape.

“By bringing together leading Pilates providers from both the fitness and traditional sectors, AUSactive has crafted the Pilates Best Practice Guidelines, which serve as a benchmark for excellence.

“This collaborative effort has resulted in a common set of principles that harmoniously blend traditional and fitness Pilates offerings, ensuring that our clients receive the highest standards of care and instruction.

“Working alongside multiple stakeholders from varied Pilates service offerings, we have collectively defined what best practice means for Australia's Pilates industry, setting a new standard for quality and professionalism.”

Founder of National Pilates Training and Aligned for Life Pilates business owner, Katrina Edwards, said the new guideline was about ensuring the safety of clients while creating a sustainable future for Pilates.

Edwards added “The Pilates Best Practice Guidelines are an essential part of how can move forward with a united and vested interest with the safe practice of Pilates supporting community health as our combined focus.

“Our collective interest as stakeholders is to support the professional development of the industry for a sustainable future for everyone, encouraging more people to move more often.”
