read moreA wave of new industry initiatives and the announcement of funding from the Western Australian Government to encourage exercise and physical activity has seen AUSactive appoint a Western Australian General Manager to lead the peak industry association in the state.
Mike Beeney, a 30-year industry veteran who has resided in Western Australia for the past 13 years, starts his appointment today after previously holding the position of Director of Asia Pacific for global wearable technology platform, Myzone.
Advising that Beeney’s local state knowledge coupled with his extensive industry experience made him the perfect candidate to lead AUSactive in Western Australia, AUSactive Chief Executive, Barrie Elvish stated “we are excited to welcome Mike to the AUSactive team. With his global industry experience and local knowledge, he understands the unique challenges and opportunities for AUSactive in the state.
“Combining his industry experience, energy and drive we are confident Mike can delivery AUSactive’s strategic objectives in WA not only for the benefit of local communities but also everyone in the sector.
“With a number of initiatives, including the first Western Australia Million Moves kicking off in May 2025, Mike will certainly hit the ground running.”
Stepping into the new position, Beeney said he was passionate about the benefits of physical activity and making a lasting impact right across the state, commenting “I believe as a sector we are now in the strongest position to make an impact and demonstrate what can be achieved in getting more people more active.
“I see this role as a great opportunity to collaborate and unite as a sector to drive this impact, nationally but specifically with my focus in Western Australia.
“As we build the AUSactive WA program I look forward to working with communities throughout WA and with groups where physical activity levels are at their lowest. This is where we can have the biggest impact on individual and community health.
“The WA government is leading the way by recognising the need and funding vital programs to get more people moving. This is just the start, and I look forward to AUSactive playing a significant role within the industry to support the needs of all communities.”
Beeney said the Million Moves Challenge will be a fantastic event and is urging as many communities and businesses as possible to get involved, adding “to use a familiar quote 'a rising tide lifts all boats', and by delivering initiatives such as Million Moves not only will the individuals and communities benefit but all partners will benefit as we grow participation in WA.
“I am looking to create broad sector engagement and implore any operator, supplier, individual, employer, or organisation that can contribute to supporting physical activity in WA to join this initiative.”
