read moreGolf enthusiasts and families looking for a fun and relaxing day out in the Nillumbik community will soon be able to enjoy a new sport and entertainment experience at Yarrambat Park Golf Course.
Belgravia Leisure, which manages the Course on behalf of Nillumbik Shire Council, is investing $1.2 million into the development of a new mini golf park for all Nillumbik residents to enjoy.
In addition to an exciting new nine and 18 hole mini-golf course ‘Goanna Golf’, a brand-new premium hospitality offering, Field Days Café, and upgrades to the traditional course are among the planned works.
The construction of the mini golf course is underway and is expected to be completed early December, with a community celebration event to be announced.
Mindful of the ongoing decline in traditional golf club participation, the mini golf attraction and entertainment offering aims to counteract this participation trend, continue interest in the sport and encourage future golfers to play.
The mini golf course will also seek to benefit the community with an educational component to the game with each mini golf hole being themed around a native Nillumbik Shire animal, providing history and facts about the animals.
Nillumbik Shire Mayor, Karen Egan commented “both families and school groups will be able to come down for a fun activity and learn about the beautiful native environment unique to the Nillumbik region. We are very excited to have an education-based attraction with multiple benefits for our community.”
With the facility having previously run several non-traditional events like Moonlight Cinemas, Family Easter Hunts and Food Truck Parks which have showcased the incredible space, Centre Manager Michael McKay advises “our events in recent years have allowed young families the opportunity to come together and socialise in their backyard. We can’t wait to bring even more inclusive entertainment options to everyone in Melbourne’s north-east."
Explaining that changes to Yarrambat Park Golf Course would provide new opportunities for the community to connect and engage in the great game, Belgravia Leisure Chief Executive, Nick Cox added “with a limited number of family entertainment venues within the region, and continued population growth surrounding the Nillumbik Shire, there is a huge opportunity to engage new users to get into golf through an inclusive family destination.”
