Candidates Confirmed for 2023 AUSactive Board Elections

Candidates Confirmed for 2023 AUSactive Board Elections
October 17, 2023

AUSactive has announced the candidates who will be contesting the upcoming ballot for appointment to the AUSactive Board of Directors.

Five nominees have been approved by AUSactive’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee following an assessment process against the Board Skills Matrix.

This year’s candidates have expressed a strong commitment to the strategic direction of AUSactive, including the important role that AUSactive plays to lead the Australian exercise and fitness industry as a key stakeholder in Australia’s preventative health landscape, and to elevate and recognise the importance of exercise and physical activity for physical health, mental health and overall wellbeing.

As of 19th October 2023, a ballot will open for business members to elect candidates to fill the Director positions on the AUSactive Board.

There are two available Business Member Director positions for election this year, and one is specifically allocated to an independently owned business member to ensure the body has representation from across the industry.

Business members will be asked to cast a vote in each of the following categories:

Director Candidates - independently owned business members
Edwina Griffin (Fitwomen/Fitmum & AtOne)
Mel Tempest (Ballarat Health and Fitness)
Amina Ward (Manisha Fitness)

Director Candidates - other business members
David Aitchison (Body Fit Training)
Selina Bridge (KX Pilates)

Current financial AUSactive Business members are eligible to vote in the ballot, which will be managed independently by TrueVote.

Participating members will receive an invitation to the ballot and information on the candidates’ experience from TrueVote on 19th October 2023 and will have until 3.00pm, 2nd November 2023 (AEDT) to cast their vote electronically.

AUSactive advises “we encourage business members to vote, as this is your opportunity to have your say regarding these important positions.

“When considering your vote, members are asked to reflect upon the level of skill, knowledge and experience that is required to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of a company director and to drive AUSactive’s strategic agenda and achieve industry goals.

“This includes to fulfill AUSactive’s aim for diversity and inclusion in our Board make up, as well as ensuring there is sufficient Board continuity to deliver on the strategic agenda.”

The outcome of the ballot is determined by the candidate with the leading number of votes in each category.

The two successful candidates will be announced at AUSactive’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 20th November 2023. The elected Directors will commence their terms directly following the AGM and serve on the Board for three years.

Information on voting is being communicated to current financial AUSactive Business members.

Departing Director
AUSactive extended its thanks to departing Director Greg Oliver, who has not re-nominated and will step down from the Board at the AGM, noting "Greg’s active participation during his tenure has significantly enhanced the Board’s work and he leaves a rich legacy not just for AUSactive, but the broader exercise and fitness industry in Australia.

"Greg plans to stay actively involved with the strategic advocacy efforts of AUSactive as we make further progress in executing the strategic objective of advocating for a healthier Australia."
