read moreProgress on the new $25 million Inverell Aquatic Centre in Northern NSW is advancing with completion and handover scheduled for December and an official opening likely to be held in January.
A renewal project replacing 60-year-old pool facilities to meet the requirements of modern-day users the new facility will include a main eight-lane 50 metre outdoor/indoor pool with moveable Swim Wall, a 20-metre by 10-metre warm water pool with a moveable floor and an indoor splash park with an associated toddlers pool.
Demolition of the old structure and earth works were completed late last year, with Inverell Shire Council engaging architects the Facility Design Group and builder Hines Constructions to undertake the work.
Earlier this year, local member Adam Marshall inspected the site and went on to advise “this massive project will see a new Inverell Aquatic Centre rise from the ground crowned the premier competitive swimming facility in country NSW.
“It will provide fun and recreation for future generations of locals and visitors, whatever their age and swimming ability.”
Marshall added that “the facilities will be state-of-the-art and ensure ease of use for all ranges of mobility.
“This project will ensure Inverell Aquatic Centre can continue delivering a high-quality training and competition venue for another 50 years.”
The total project is valued at $24.98 million with the NSW Government contributing $6.1 million.
Inverell Shire Council has entered into contract with Belgravia Leisure, who will commence operation of Ashford Swimming Pool and the Inverell Aquatic Centre as facility managers.
Ashford Swimming Pool opened to the public for the season on Tuesday 1st October.
