NSW Seniors Festival set to deliver hundreds of free events
February 10, 2020

NSW Seniors Festival, the largest festival for seniors in the Southern Hemisphere, reaching up to 500,000 seniors each year is set to take place from 12th to 23rd February 2020 and will offer hundreds of free community events from fitness classes to tours of art galleries and botanical gardens.

Ku-ring gai Fitness & Aquatic Centre, managed by the Y|NSW, will be running a series of special seniors’ activities in the centre to encourage local seniors to learn more about the benefits of fitness and healthy living and to network with other seniors.

Free Aquatic Passes will be offered to those over the age of 60 and includes free access to utilise the pool facilities at Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre, a fully accessible facility boasting a 25metre heated indoor pool, indoor program pool and 50metre heated outdoor pool.

The centre will also be offering three free fitness classes for seniors to come and try. These three free beginner’s ‘PrYme’ exercise classes are for any guests who feel uneasy about starting exercise, may not have exercised for an extended period or lack the confidence to join a regularly scheduled class.  These classes are taught by professional instructors and specifically formulated for people over the age of 60.

Ku-ring gai Fitness & Aquatic Centre will also be offering a free Health and Fitness Seminar discussing healthy ageing, nutrition and exercise options for seniors.

Campbelltown Arts Centre will be offering Seniors complimentary tours of the galleries and gardens. Tours run for approximately 45 minutes catering for groups of five to 25 people.

In celebration of the 2020 NSW Seniors Festival and the closing weekend of Campbelltown Arts Centre’s exhibition, Vernon Ah Kee – The Island, Macarthur over 55’s are invited to enjoy a distinctly Australian afternoon to be hosted by the acclaimed artist Vernon Ah Kee.

Ah Kee is one of the most prominent and important living artists in Australia today. Spanning almost two decades, Vernon Ah Kee’s The Island profiles Ah Kee’s brilliantly diverse practice, offering challenging perspectives on contemporary Australian life and a critique of Australia’s tendency to shift issues off shore.

The afternoon tea will begin with a Welcome to Country and an exhibition tour led by Ah Kee, followed by discussions around key themes from the exhibition, facilitated by local Aboriginal Elders.

Seniors in Campbelltown will also be offered a range of activities at the libraries, aqua and fitness classes for seniors, sensory walks for people with dementia at the Botanic Gardens and a range of ongoing activities through local Senior Citizen groups.
