read morePureGym has released its annual Fitness Report which reveals remote personal training, Hyrox and Quadrobics as being among the biggest fitness trends for 2025.
The PureGym annual Fitness once again takes a deep dive into all the trending workouts of the moment to reveal which is likely to be the biggest for 2025 - with remote personal trainers set to get people moving the most.
The analysis, which compared the current number of monthly global Google searches for more than 200 fitness trends to the same period one year ago, has revealed the workouts and fitness fads that are seeing the biggest peaks in interest for 2025.
‘Remote personal training’ takes the top spot, with year-on-year interest up by a huge 414%. Many PTs began to offer online coaching out of necessity during the pandemic but have since continued to diversify their services by offering coaching via online platforms and video sessions.
One of the main benefits of working with a personal trainer remotely is the convenience, with the ability to fit a workout around tricky schedules without taking time to travel to and from the gym.
Hugh Hanley, Group Director of Personal Training at PureGym notes “It’s great to see more people using personal training to help with their fitness goals. Over the last few years, we’ve seen most of our PTs begin to offer online coaching as an additional service to help support clients who can’t get to the gym, with many people opting for a blend of in person and online coaching. As the industry evolves, we are excited to see how we can continue to support PTs in helping people get more active.”
The meteoric rise of Hyrox also continues. It ranked as the second biggest fitness trend for 2025, thanks to a 233% increase in interest year-on-year, following on from it featuring in the top five trending workouts for the previous two years. PureGym’s Fitness Report even found that out of all the people planning on taking part in a fitness themed event, be it a marathon, park run or sports competition, 1 in 10 (10%) have entered or are planning on entering a Hyrox event – further cementing just how popular it has become.
TikTok’s influence on health and fitness trends continues to be seen too, with the 30-30-30 rule set to be something many people live by in 2025. Standing for eating 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking up, followed by 30 minutes of low-intensity exercise, the weight loss ‘rule’ first originated in the 2010 book ‘The Four Hour Body’, however has risen to prominence once again thanks to TikTok creator and biologist Gary Brecka featuring it in one of his videos.
Following in the footsteps of the Tarzan movement and primal movement trends that previously featured in 2024’s top ten, Quadrobics, another full-body workout that mimics animal movement, ranks within the top five for 2025, with ‘primal fitness’ also ranking among the top 20, highlighting an appetite for back-to-basics workout styles.
With trends such as step aerobics (+124%), rollerblading (+123%), breaking classes (+86%) and boxing (+84%) also among the most popular fitness trends for 2025, it seems that people are interested in experimenting with new routines and activities, that differ from more ‘traditional’ workouts, such as running.
However, the saying goes that what goes up must come down, and in many cases, the top trends of one year are often the biggest losers of the next. This is definitely true for the likes of the ‘treadmill strut’ (-56%), 12-3-30 (-55%) and wall Pilates (-55%) which have all topped trends lists in previous years but are clearly following the pattern of ‘viral’ trends that see a rapid rise to fame before quickly fading away.
However, it’s the 28-day wall Pilates challenge that ranks as the biggest loser overall, with a huge 84% drop in interest for the workout plan in the last twelve months. Interestingly, Stepper-ton (-47%), the fast-paced dance-based workout that uses step aerobics as its basis is also among the biggest fallers, despite step aerobics itself ranking in the top 10 trends.
Stephen Rowe, Chief Marketing Officer at PureGym commented “this is the fourth year running that we’ve taken a look into our crystal ball to predict the biggest fitness trends for the year ahead, and as always the results have thrown up a mix of trends, including trends we expected and some we definitely didn’t!
“Enjoying exercise is key to consistency so it’s great to see such a mix of activities in the top 10 – from Hyrox to rollerblading, it’s clear that people are searching for ways to make exercise more fun. It’s also great to witness a rise in remote personal training, which reflects growing demand we’re seeing for personal training within gyms. People are increasingly prioritising their health, making working with trainers—both in gyms and remotely a vital part of their fitness journey.”

Methodology:
PureGym compiled 208 different fitness trends by tracking any mentioned in news articles covering ‘fitness trends’ across 2019-2024. The trends were then analysed using Google Keyword Planner. The monthly worldwide Google search volumes in both July-September 2023 and July-September 2024 were taken, and the percentage increase/decrease for each trend was calculated to provide the final ranking. Data correct as of October 2024
