Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre set to offer more than 450 building, design and construction jobs

Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre set to offer more than 450 building, design and construction jobs
September 4, 2024

The development of the new $142 million Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre - for which expressions of interests for the managing contractor and principal consultant - are currently open, is expected to create more than 480 full-time equivalent jobs across planning, design and construction.

Being developed for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the 6000-seat venue - located within the Kawana Sports Precinct - is earmarked to host basketball preliminaries during the Brisbane Games.

Its concept includes 11 multi-sport courts and areas that can be used for a range of sports including basketball, netball, volleyball, pickleball, futsal and badminton, before and after the event.

The Federal and Queensland Governments have allocated funding from the Minor Venues Program towards its construction, with Sunshine Coast Council also committing more than $25 million to fund air-conditioning and permanent retractable seats in the main hall, broadcast lighting, cafe and gym floor area.

Commenting on the development, Queensland Premier Steven Miles said the Sunshine Coast is set to get the most from the Games, advising “I want Queensland’s regions to benefit from the opportunity and legacy that comes with being an Olympic and Paralympic Games host.

“On the Sunshine Coast, that means better transport connectivity through a new direct rail link and upgraded local sporting venues.”

Adding that the new venue will provide long-term benefits, Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King explained “the new centre will provide the growing community with the space and facilities to participate in some of the fastest growing sports in the country.

“The Australian government is working closely with the Queensland government to deliver venues that reflect the needs of staging a global event like the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games while providing the best outcomes for our communities now and in the future.

“We’re proud to be supporting a boost to Queensland sports stadiums and community sporting facilities, that will leave a lasting legacy for the Coast and the nation.”

Expressions of interest to tender for the managing contractor and principal consultant are available on the QTenders website.
