Tasmania’s Visitor Experience Training new hotel school launched

Tasmania’s Visitor Experience Training new hotel school launched
August 12, 2024

The next generation of Tasmanian hospitality workers will be able to get job-ready training at Visitor Experience Training’s new hotel school – launched by Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Jeremy Rockliff on Sunday.

Visitor Experience Training (VXT) is a purpose-built organisation that trains the hospitality and tourism workforce to deliver the Tasmanian experience.

The Tasmanian Hospitality Association (THA) and the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT) are VXT’s shareholders.

Tasmanian Premier Rockliff noted “The tourism and hospitality sector is a jobs powerhouse, employing one in eight Tasmanians. We know there is already strong demand for this workforce across our State and that’s why we are investing in practical, job-ready training for the next generation of tourism and hospitality workers.

“We have committed $1.3 million through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future to support VXT to deliver short courses to upskill Tasmanians in areas such as housekeeping, food and beverage service, front-of-house training and bar operators.

“Through this investment, we are helping grow the workforce our visitor economy needs.”

The Tasmanian Government is the strongest supporter of the tourism and hospitality industry, investing an additional $12 million into the Visitor Economy Strategy.

“We’ve also launched a $50 million Regional Tourism Loan Scheme and will also deliver a $500,000 Regional Hospitality Revival Fund,” Premier Rockliff added.

“Building on Tasmania’s reputation as a world-leading tourism destination is an important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, and we will continue to invest in this sector.”
