Victoria’s alpine resorts welcome new snowfalls

Victoria’s alpine resorts welcome new snowfalls
June 30, 2024

With south-eastern Australia experiencing its coldest start to winter in decades, alpine resorts have reported significant snowfalls over recent days, boosted by an overnight storm.

Victorian resorts Hotham and Mt Baw Baw have welcomed 20cms of snow this morning while Mt Buller and Falls Creek received 16cms.

With the storm bringing sub-zero temperatures and high quality snow, Mt Buller’s David Clark stated “there’s nothing like waking up to fluffy dry snow covering the slopes, and seeing our littlest guests lapping it up on skis - many for the first time.

“We’re delighted to offer visitors an idyllic winter experience these school holidays. It’s the perfect time for kids to learn to ski, with instructors taking kids for their first turns from the age of three.”

With Mt Buller’s seasonal staff having been working preparing the resort, eight lifts are currently operating, plus the terrain park.

In a statement, Mt Buller added “with continual investment in snowmaking, Mt Buller offers a ‘snow guarantee’ for skiers and boarders through to the first week of October.

However, in NSW snowfalls have been more sporadic with rain at lower levels and strong winds halting chairlifts

The forecast is for colder temperatures and good snowmaking conditions over the next few nights with all resorts expected to be working on opening more terrain with the busy school holiday period underway.
