read moreAs we wrap up the year and reflect on the last 12 months, it is remarkable to see what this industry has achieved through 2022 as it moves beyond the impact of the pandemic.
The approaching Christmas holiday period marks the first in two years in which this industry will be unimpeded by border closures, lockdowns and restrictions, leaving operators in many sectors of the industry in position to make the most of what should be their busiest time of the year.
For others, the holidays are a quieter time, allowing the opportunity to refresh before entering into 2023.
What this year has largely seen is the undiminished appetite of Australians and New Zealanders to make the most of the leisure industry’s offerings: visiting theme parks, making the most of swimming pools, working out at a gym, enjoying nature in parks and national parks, having children attain essential life skills through swimming lessons, participating in sport, being entertained at live events and festivals, being part of elite sporting events and to travel - all among the ways in which this industry helps improve the quality of life of populations through attainment, achievement, entertainment and fun.
Connecting with community and people, the year has seen record levels of participation, attendance and spending in many sectors - factors that are hoped will continue in 2023.
Of course, many communities and the operators in them, have been impacted by floods and unusual weather patterns and they are to be commended for how they have responded to these challenges.
And as the year comes to a close we would like to thank all our advertisers, contributors, partners and you, our readers' for your interest, engagement and support through 2022.
